How counselling can support your recovery from gambling?

About Me

Hello, I’m Kerri, the counsellor behind Sunrise Recovery.

I’m a BACP-registered integrative counsellor, I work in a person-centred way at the heart of my practice and utilise CBT and transactional analysis. I work with adults experiencing a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties, with a specialist focus on gambling-related harm and recovery.

My approach

My core belief is that meaningful change happens in a relationship where you feel safe, accepted, and understood.

I offer a warm, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly—often for the first time—about what’s really going on for you.

My approach is:

  • Person-centred at the core – you lead the pace and direction
  • Integrative in practice – drawing on CBT to explore patterns and transactional analysis to understand relational dynamics
  • Grounded and practical when helpful – supporting both insight and real-life change

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Counselling is shaped around you, your experiences, and what you need at this point in your life.

My lived experience

Alongside my professional training, I bring lived experience of gambling-related harm and recovery.

I understand that gambling is often about far more than the behaviour itself. It can involve cycles of urge, relief, regret, and shame, alongside feelings of isolation or loss of control.

Having experienced aspects of this personally, I recognise how difficult it can be to talk about, and how hard it can feel to make changes—even when part of you wants to.

This understanding allows me to offer a space where you don’t need to explain everything from the beginning, or worry about being judged or misunderstood.

My lived experience informs my empathy and insight, but it is grounded in professional training, ethical practice, and a commitment to supporting you safely and appropriately.

What you can expect from me

You will be met with:

  • A calm, supportive presence
  • No judgement, ever
  • A focus on understanding, not blaming
  • Confidential and ethical practice
  • A steady pace that respects where you are

I will not rush you or push you further than you’re ready to go. This is your space.

Who I work with

I work with adults who may be experiencing:

  • Gambling-related harm or addiction
  • Anxiety or low mood
  • Stress and emotional overwhelm
  • Shame, guilt, or self-criticism
  • Difficulties with impulse control or compulsive behaviours

You don’t need to have everything figured out before starting. Uncertainty is often where counselling begins.

Qualifications, experience and professional membership

I hold an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am a BACP-registered counsellor, working in line with their ethical framework and have an Enhanced DBS. I have 7 years of experience working with people affected by gambling addiction, supporting those who are actively gambling as well as those who have stopped but continue to find it challenging to adjust to life without it.

I engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development to support safe and effective practice.

Working together

I offer online counselling sessions, making support accessible across the UK.

If you’re unsure whether counselling is right for you, you’re welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation.

What to expect

I offer an initial free 20 minute call where you can share a little about yourself, find out about how counselling may benefit you, and answer any questions you may have.

If you would like to arrange a counselling session after our initial call, sessions are £55 and are 50 minutes in length, taking place online via Microsoft Teams or telephone depending on your preference.

Frequency of sessions is tailored to you, often people will choose to have weekly sessions initially and we will review this to ensure that the sessions are meeting your needs
